RYA POWER BOAT LEVEL II COURSE

Where?

Theory - At our office in Club Mykonos Private Resort
Practical - On our power boat on the Langebaan Lagoon

The aim it is to teach boat handling and seamanship in powerboats. The course may be conducted in a variety of boat types, both planing and displacement, and the certificate issued will be endorsed to show the type(s) of boat on which the training took place.

Who is it for?

The RYA National Powerboat Certificate (Level II) is recognised by most European administrations for the operation of small craft like yacht tenders under 10m. Any yacht tenders outside the immediate vicinity of the mother ship would be well-advised to have qualified tender drivers. Obtaining this certificate at an early stage could make your CV stand out and enhance your job prospects.

Ability after course

You will be certified to operate a yacht tender under 10m in foreign waters.

Section A – Practical:

  • Launching and Recovery
  • Boat Handling
  • Securing to a buoy
  • Anchoring
  • Leaving and coming alongside
  • Man Overboard

Section B – Theory:

  • Types of craft
  • Engines and Drives
  • Siting of fuel tanks
  • Routine engine checks
  • Close down procedures
  • Advice to inland drivers about coastal waters
  • Use and Limitations of GPS
  • Application of local byelaws
  • Source of weather information

Accommodation
 
Not included in the course unless you are doing it as part of a Career Course.  We can assist you in finding affordable accommodation in the area.

Food

Please make provision for your own breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Tea and coffee are available at the office ~ always welcome for a cuppa!

National and some international flights land at Cape Town International Airport. The airport is approximately an hour’s drive from our office in Langebaan.

ARRIVAL ARRANGEMENTS

If the need be, we can assist you in making arrangements to meet your transport and alternative accommodation needs. We make use of a registered shuttle service between Cape Town and Langebaan.

EVENING BEFORE COURSE STARTS (only by prior arrangement)

We can meet you the day before your course starts between 17:00 and 18:00 at our office. Please make arrangements with our office prior to your arrival.

THE MORNING THE COURSE STARTS

Please meet us at the Atlantic Yachting Office at the Club Mykonos Marina, Agora Square at 08:30. After the first day theory courses will commence at 08:30am and finish by 17:00.
