Training takes place on one of our L34’s in Langebaan, on the picturesque Langebaan Lagoon. This course introduces the complete beginner to cruising and teaches personal safety, seamanship and helmsmanship to the level required to be a useful member of the crew of a cruising yacht.
Who is it for?
If you want to equip yourself to be a useful crew member on board a sailing yacht, then this is the course for you.

Syllabus
This course introduces the complete beginner to the following fundamental topics necessary to be be a useful crew member on board a sailing yacht:
- Knowledge of sea terms and parts of a boat, her rigging and sails
- Sail handling
- Rope-work
- Fire precautions and fire fighting
- Personal safety equipment
- Man overboard
- Emergency equipment
- Manners and customs
- Rules of the road
- Dinghies
- Meteorology
- Seasickness
- Hemlsmanship and sailing
- General duties
Qualification obtained
Atlantic Yachting Competent Crew certificate

Course material
Each student receives the following which is yours to keep after the course:
- Complimentary Atlantic Yachting Log Book
- Complimentary Atlantic Yachting Cap
- Complimentary Atlantic Yachting T-shirt
Our training includes the following:
- RYA Competent Crew manual on loan
- Foul weather gear (on loan)
Accommodation
Free accommodation is on board your training yacht for the duration of the course (including sheets, pillows, pillow cases, fully equipped galley and cleaning products)
You will also have the full use of the Club Mykonos Private Resort Facilities. WI FI vouchers can be purchased from our office.
Food
Tea and coffee are available at the office ~ always welcome for a cuppa!
Food is not included in the course fee, however, tea, coffee and sugar is supplied on the yachts. We provide a nutritional menu plan (including a shopping list) typically used when on the sea. We encourage students to cook on the yacht as part of the yachting experience.

- Extra money for food & beverages – cooking on board the yacht is encouraged for the experience and to help stretch your budget

ARRIVAL ARRANGEMENTS
If the need be, we can assist you in making arrangements to meet your transport and alternative accommodation needs.
We make use of a registered shuttle service between Cape Town and Langebaan.
EVENING BEFORE COURSE STARTS (only by prior arrangement)
We can meet you the day before your course starts between 17:00 and 18:00 at our office. Please make arrangements
with our office prior to your arrival.
THE MORNING THE COURSE STARTS
Please meet us at the Atlantic Yachting Office at the Club Mykonos Marina, Agora Square at 08:30. After the first day
theory courses will commence at 08:30am and finish by 17:00.
